When I look up vacuum diagrams the same generic ones pop up. Even the GM manual I have has some stuff but the pictures are so small they are hard to follow. The one on the fan shroud is hard to see and doesn't seem to cover enough. Then there is California editions!! $#!?&. I want to get rid Of the smog system, does anyone have a clear to read "stick" drawing for this I can't possibly be the first. Please help!!!!

Here are the last ones I'm having problems with. One is transmission vacuum and others are carb, manifold, and turbo assym. Ports. The pen points to the port, also the vacuum ball, what's it hook to and bolt down? Thanks in advance for your help.

Wait, forget that PDF. I saw the vacuum ball and assumed this was a 1983. I see 1980 in the title now.

Those vacuum balls started in 1983. Before that, they looked like a large soup can. They should be bolted to the fan shroud.

You have a pre-computer engine. Do you have a factory service manual? If not, look on ebay. They should be dirt cheap (<$20) and are well worth it. It will have good vacuum and wiring diagrams,

yes i do have a factory manual that came with the car. it is pretty vague and doesn't really give alot of info when it comes to the turbo stuff. that is why i posted pictures of the problem ports hoping someone could help me out.

I have been told and read some where that both waste gate ports are unnecessary. Which one isnt?

I think I gave you this already, but here you go! When I get my Monte home I can be more help to you. The one on your

intake horn is for your waist gate. Vaccum ball I think is for your heater valve.

Thanks bud, it will be nice when your car get home so I can verify some of my choices. Maybe when you get it we can talk on the phone and make quick work of it

I have been told and read some where that both waste gate ports are unnecessary. Which one isnt?

Both lines can be seen in the diagram above, top left, "WASTEGATE ACTR".

The outboard port (driver's side) connects to the compressor housing "foot". It is referenced to boost pressure and blows open the wastegate actuator. (make sure this port holds pressure/vacuum, otherwise the diaphragm is leaking). This must be connected. It's labeled "TO COMP HOUSING"

The inboard port goes to either the carburetor or the plenum (upper intake manifold). It often leaks and is unnecessary. Leave the hose off and cap it and the carb/plenum to avoid a large vacuum leak. The first picture in post #3 with the pen pointing to a blue painted port - that may be where the unnecessary wastegate actuator hose goes. In the emission label diagram, it looks like the line goes the carb, but on my car, the line goes to this port. I cap this off.

The compressor 'foot' will have two lines coming off it. In your pictures, one has a hard line connected to it going to the wastegate actuator. That line is very important as it control the wastegate and maximum boost pressure. The second port with the pen to it is for the boost switch which turns the Turbo Power lights on the dash. Look at the factory shop manual on page 6A1-39 for a diagram. (Regal is "A" series)
