1/4 times with GT3255

Well, I got another night in at the track. The first two runs were with 94 octane and 20 PSI and I had to let off out of the hole because of knock. I bought some 104 Octane to mix with the 94, turned the boost down to about 19PSI and got a 13.1 at 102MPH. Also, the Transmission slips a lil' bit going into 3rd.

If you still have the stock down pipe thats about the best your going to get till you let it breath some more.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. Lots of guys running low 12s with stock downpipe. I had one friend run a 12.1 with a 1.9 60ft, stock turbo, intercooler and motor. I went 12.7@107 with a 1.97 60ft on my low milage car, all stock with a street chip, 20psi through the stock exhaust system. Unbolted it went low 12s on a very hot day. The altitude is 300ft above sea level so that helps.

I have gone 105mph with a stock turbo and original 150,000 mile motor @ 22~23psi.

Our TE-44s have gone easy 118mph, any GT-3255 any where near that range?

Ran at Tulsa Raceway a few weeks back in 100 & up degree heat and ran 12.60's on 18lbs of boost with a GT3255.

My best ever was a 12.05 @ 113 mph at Noble (Ford vs Buick) a few years back and that was on a stock turbo (22 lbs), stock DP with a dump, stock INJ & a stock IC. I did have a upgraded fuel system, pump, Regulator etc. but was probably very lean on the big end. No scan tool of any kind.

Yes it can be done!

My set up now
GT3255 Turbo
Bluetops
THDP
Stock IC w/big neck
Walbro 340 Hotwired
LS1 Maf Translator Plus

And have yet to see 12.05 again????? I've been close running in the 12.20's with mph being about the same depending on boost and timing 109-113.

David,

I only had about 24* timing in the tune up.
I would expect with 28-30*, and valve springs that your 113MPH would be there.

I never got the chance to try, I took the car apart to try and make it fast.
The only fast part about it was how it would drain my accounts. :frown:

Please let me know what you run. If it does not pick up I will consider the 44 or the 61 for my daily driver.

Thanks in advance!

The jury is still out on this turbo? I haven't turned the timing up more because I'm running real lean on the big end (upgrading to 50lbers soon)
Have been in the 24-25 degree range with 18-20 lbs of boost and running 88-89 mph in the 1/8 mile.

I replaced a TA49 with this turbo and am now wondering if I made a mistake?? Don't know yet? This LS1 MAF and Translator plus is new as well so I have been learning on the run if you know what I mean.

I hope I don't need valve springs the motor only has about 18K on it, but that's a lot of 1/8 miles at a time. I only run the 1/4 mile 2-3 times a year just about everything is 1/8 mile

I guess time will tell. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Maybe trade for a 52???????????

fast86gn,
What octane were you running when you got your 12.05@113? were you running with alcohol?

You need to Upgrade those Injectors..36# Blue Tops Just won't get it with that 3255 Turbo. 42.5# or 50#'s would be a better choice to prevent Lean-Out.

Yep have found that out. There (50's) on order so I'll have some new times soon.

Well the 50 lbers have arrived and have also purchased the big & bad Stock location Intercooler from Precision. Should have everything ready to go in time for Noble on Oct. 29th. Looking for maybe 11.50's in the cool air? We'll see.

I have already ran in the 7.50 - 7.60 range (1/8 mile) with the current set up in the hot and humid air. This intercooler should be a hugh gain along with the bigger injectors.

This GT3255 seems to have a sweet spot around 27-28 lbs! Stay tuned!

Went to the track again. 12.4@106 with a 1.6sec. 60'! On my second run I almost blew the motor as the Posi gave out ending up in a one wheel peel after a 5PSI launch. Needless to say, I had to pack it in for the night and probably for the season until I get the rear fixed.

Update!

Well made it to Noble back in Oct. The MSD 50's are in and the new Precision Stock location Intercooler is installed.

Due to problems with the Translator (code 42's) we looped off the Translator and that solved that problem! New translator bad.

We ran 22lbs of boost with base timing only because of the Translator (23 degrees) we had traction problems all day. My son did most of the driving but the track prep sucked. Mostly 1.9 to 2.0 sixty foots.

His best run was 110mph, so we know the power is there. The ET's sucked his best was a 12.50.

I believe with 28 degrees of timimg and about the same boost level we can achieve 115mph and in the mid 11's.

My TTA did 108 MPH with 18-19lbs and 20 degrees. Only went 12.86 though. The car was stock besides turbo and 50s. I have a dump on it now which should help my ETs. Car spooled pretty slow.

Ill stay with my good old tried an true 44 :p I tried a 3255 for a few weeks .. to me it didn't have any top end pull  ... oh well keep the results coming

I looked at the chart on the Precision webisite before I bought my 3255. It's not a very big turbo but I was told it was an innovative design and that it was compatible to the TA49. I didin't expect much from it. When I bought it, I was just looking for an easy replacement for my stock turbo which was bad. It seems to have a heck of alot of pull in the lower range though.

PTE/full throttle engine dynoed the GT32 vs the TA49 and the GT had 40 more lbs in the midrange than the 49.

Russ Merritt did pretty well with the GT3255E
pump gas and alky went 11.49 @ 117.22 on a 1.66 60' on the 2nd pass at a respectable 25# boost

Best pass was 11.29 @ 119.69. The car did get over 120mph with a 11.32 @ 120.02.

Love that little turbo....... THDP, old KB fm intercooler (that's all we had) stock engine, 2800 stall Pat's lock-up converter, locked up the whole pass, pump gas and alky, 27-25# boost.

Good times! Sounds like I got a lot of room to grow with the GT3255. I have razors kit which works awesome with methanol and I just got a rebiult trans from CK performance. Check out my sig, what do ya think I can run?
