Had a similar problem, it was the EGR solenoid...replaced it ($50 part) and haven't had the code since. If you EGR valve moves OK by hand I would suspect the solenoid next. Jeff

Could also be like mine...a real GN which was stolen and reVINed as a non-TR so it could be driven/owned illegally without drawing attention from the state. Jeff

Just checked my '87 with 116K miles last month, 138-142 on all six cylinders. I think something is wrong with your #4, if the oil helped it is most likely a ring issue on that cylinder and the oil helps seal the gap during the test. Are you using much oil or seeing blow-by? Jeff

Thanks for the good info... The main reason I suspect the rear end is because of the yellow junkyard paint on the housing. You know the stuff they use to mark parts at the junkyard, I think there's a date on it or something, haven't looked at it in quite awhile. I'm finally able to spend more...

I have the wrong differential in my '87 GN, the speedo is WAY off, and it's not a posi. I was wondering if the rear end and rear suspension on the GN is the same as other G-body cars (Cutlass, Monte Carlo, etc). If not, what are the differences? Thanks, Jeff

Have you considered Conley's here in Houston? I personally haven't used them, but they are known nationwide for fast TRs. Maybe some Houston folks who have worked with them can comment. Jeff

Check your EGR valve and solenoid. Mine was bad but wasn't throwing a SES light, only occasionally would it throw a code. Tried all kinds of stuff to fix it, turned out to be the EGR solenoid, $50 and about 5 minutes to fix. Jeff

No Problem! I bolted the '85 tranny right up to my '87, and the one you're looking at is a BRF so they should be identical. Congrats on the find! Jeff
