It had to happen.....my '83 T is for sale.

It runs well and drives well for the most part, but the trouble with the MAP sensor is causing it to go full rich as RPMs/boost rise. It's very solid, no rust in the floor pans, quarters (inner or outer), trunk, door jambs, etc. If you want pictures of specific areas, let me know.

It had to happen.....my '83 T is for sale.

I've finally given in and decided to part with my T-Type.....it's on eBay as we speak. Thanks for all of the tech tips and advice! It's been fun, but it's time for someone else to give it the TLC it deserves. Pick

    I'm finally giving up........'83 T-Type For Sale

No, I never got full use of the cold air intake. Emissions inspections, kids, a job, and pure frustration with all of the above simply stacked up too high. Yep, it sux..........I always wanted one, but at least I have "been there, done that".........it is time to move on.

    I'm finally giving up........'83 T-Type For Sale

It is a LONG story.........but SOMETHING must go, so my T is up for sale. '83 T-Type, all of the original equipment goes with it except the tires. (it still has the '84 Olympics decal in the window.) Black exterior that is straight, but could use paint. Maroon interior, buckets and...

    GA Smog question.....it failed AGAIN.

The air pump and diverter valves are still in place.............I'll see if I can find out what was removed when they did the exhaust. And I'll keep hunting the vacuum leak(s).........I've found many of them, but I certainly wouldn't be shocked to find more..... <sigh> Thanks!

    GA Smog question.....it failed AGAIN.

OK, some of the answers to some of the questions: The new cat does have the air fitting on it, but it isn't connected to anything. I didn't think the original one had an air fitting on it..........but I really didn't pay much attention to the exhaust since it was OEM. ??? With the car cold...

    GA Smog question.....it failed AGAIN.

I've been away awhile (work shake-ups and other stuff put the T-Type on a back burner again.) sorry to return with yet another smog question. OK...since the last failure......TPS changed, new MAP (still questionable), various vacuum lines replaced, computer SEEMED happy according to the scan...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

Thanks Peter. That information will definitely help me isolate the problem(s) with the MAP sensor if it comes down to that. After reading your post, and thinking back to Jim and Rich's, I pulled the hose and the electrical connector from the MAP sensor to check the voltage......but when I...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

OK....tonight I disconnected the battery to purge the computer of all of its previously learned ills and codes, then ran the MacLogic through its paces again. MAP is still reading identical to atmospheric pressure and the MAP voltage is staying constant at 4.8 volts. Everything else appeared to...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

Thanks Rich! Actually, that did make sense. (should I be frightened?) ;) The MAP reading didn't change with the car on or off, it is still 29 iHg. My scan tool does read volts, but I don't remember what the reading was.......I do know that the MAP volts didn't change either though. I...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

The new MAP matched up with the A, B and C indications on the connector........and it is orange inside......it is NAPA #2-1962, if that helps any. But, now that you brought it up, one of the keys in the MAP didn't match the slot on the connector for the same "hole" on the Regal. (there are...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

Still confused.... OK, new MAP sensor is in place, but it is still reading the same as barometric pressure (29 iHg) and doesn't change, even putting the engine under a load against the brakes. I retraced the line and didn't find any splits. The screwy thing is that it actually ran smoother...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

Jim, I had to do it solo.........I'm sure that contributed to my frustration.......the MAP sensor is (was) undoubtedly the original, and surprisingly enough, the hose leading to it was intact. (I can't say the same for some of the other hoses, however.) I have a few caps in places that I...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

My check engine light has been on since the day I bought my car. This is the first year that it failed emissions though, so I'm just now chasing down all of the possible reasons for it. I'm guessing that the TPS failure was the last straw that lead to the emissions failure, but it is just a...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

Good points! Yes, I removed all of the original air cleaner assembly and support bracket as well. (fortunately, I had already polished the carb bonnet and slid the silicone boot over it the day before my carb fiasco or things might have gotten UGLY.) Now that it's in and you pointed out a...

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

I used the same part number you suggested. I got it installed last night but it just seemed a bit tight. (of course, it might have to do with the fact that I wasn't a real happy camper by the time I decided to try it.) :)

    Progress..finally....(I'm slow I guess)

OK, tonight I finally took the time to put the carb back together after getting a new TPS....it's almost right......but ya know the pesky little rod that runs from the choke down inside the carb? well.....on my third time putting the top of the carb back on, it decided to come unhooked at the...

    TPS readings

The instructions that came with my replacement TPS also list .77 as the idle setting for the '83. I don't have it put back together to test it yet though.

    OK....I'm officially LOST. HELP!!!!!

Thanks Jim. Pep Boys had the TPS in stock, so I grabbed one during lunch and it's sitting here on my desk. (complete with a new plunger, spring, checkball, and plug to cover the adjustment screw.........but no gasket...........I didn't even think about it. DOH!) The tiny little installation...

    OK....I'm officially LOST. HELP!!!!!

THANKS Jim and Rich! I wasn't seeing the big picture of how the TPS would be affecting everything..........I guess it is a case where I expected to find one thing and just got thrown off when I found something totally different. (the TPS never entered my mind.) Anyway......as far as the carb...
