Anyone try the new QA1 rear Pro Coil coilovers?

They redesigned the mounting system. Much more secure bracket mounts now. Been considering adjustable shocks for a while and would like to able to lower the rear a tad without trying a bunch of coil springs for height and ride I want.

thnaks…i have the old way….i just bought them over last summer. so they just changed them not to long ago i guess ….oh well…i do like mine tho, they are nice…

Was there much time involved in finding the right ride height you wanted? How about the shock settings? I want to keep the stock style ride for cruising, not into the rock hard buckboard ride for handling.

it took a little bit to get it the way i wanted it….i got the fronts as well. if you do the fronts it will take longer. the car will settle a little bit also after you adjust the springs. thats what does take time . bounce it up and down and take it around the block, you will probably need an alignment too. for now the shock settings (with the knobs) i just set in them in the middle for now until i go to the track then i will change them. it does ride rough, but i have the 150lb springs in the rear. I'm sure the 130's would be better for regular driving. if it was a daily driver i would try the different springs. i have a goal of running 9 sec. this summer and I'm building a new motor now. a/c is going to work and it will have no cage…..im very happy with the stance and the way it looks, and the shocks are nice...

At this time I'm just doing the rears. They changed the spring rates for the new style coilovers from the style you have. I think the shock bodies are different so they had to change the springs. So do you think the shock setting have anything to do with the ride ie; going to a lighter setting would lighten the ride? I think Mark Huffman went with the medium spring for the old shock and that was 150. I guess I'll just have to call QA1 and have a chat. Thanks.

haven't messed with them much really, didn't have that much time to mess with the car this summer…got all the suspension done and didn't have much time to drive it…..i think setting them all the way soft may help a little bit. ….

Spoke to Qa1 the other day.
Here's what I found out about their new rear Pro coil overs.

These new Qa1 rear coil overs now use 12" springs...apparently this is a new set up & the first time QA1 have offered the rears.
Other vendors have supplied 14" springs on the rear QA1 coil overs which have been around for a while & used a T bar mounting system put together outside of Qa1. I was told because the springs are 12" the spring rates have changed to higher spring rates from what we have seen used on the 14" springs previously.
The new mounting system brackets are available from Qa1 and can retrofit to the 14" spring /shock for anyone already using their rear coil overs but looking for a beefier mounting system. Was told they are powder coated black. (Have since discovered they are actually zinc plated).

Part # K103K for the rear coil over mounting bracket kit......List price is $149.99
9033-101 1/2" upper shock mount sleeve - @ $2.99 (note: 2 will be required)

Available special order from Jegs or Summit Racing

Good info! Did they mention what new spring rates are for different ride qualities?

Can't put my fingers on the printed article, but I did read this somewhere........they said with the 12" springs they need to go with higher spring rates:

170# for a soft stock ride
200# for drag or street strip
220# for handling performance
250# for road racing / auto-cross

--------------------------------------------------------------

vs the recommended spring rates using 14" springs :

Spring Rates: For a soft stock like ride we recommend a 130# spring. For drag racing and street/strip applications we recommend a 150# spring. For handling performance we recommend a 175# spring. For road racing we recommend a 200# spring. Other spring rates are available up to 350#, call to place orders with custom spring rates.

Nope.
If you've already got a pair of rear QA1 rear coil overs the springs will be 14".
Simply bolt on the new QA1 mounting brackets (top & bottom) to your shock body & you will be good to go!

I've got these brackets waiting for me to pick up on my next trip to CA which will be next month. Will have these mounted when I bring the car back home from winter storage.....sometime in March or April.

I'll be sure to post some pics of these brackets & their installation.

Was told by their rep that this is officially the 1st time that QA1 has offered their product with an "in house" designed rear coil over set up specifically for the G body cars. With this design they chose to use 12" springs, so (as I was told) the 12" springs req'd a higher spring rate than we have seen previously. Not so sure that the mounting won't change the shocks angle or geometry somewhat & that also may have played a part in upping the spring rates accordingly.

I have 150# springs presently on my coil overs, so will have to see if there is any change or need to increase my spring rates with the new brackets installed.

Brackets should be a bolt on set up that supposedly offers a much more robust & secure mounting system.
Most likely aimed at the Auto-Cross / Road Racing crowd where a more solid mounting system set up is needed.

The stock rear springs are removed. The coil over spring does the work.

X2
Sorry, I guess I misread the question.

Yes, the stock coil springs and shocks are removed & the coil over set up replaces both.

Sorry for the delay in responding.......Finally got these in my hands....will post pictures of the new QA1 coil over rear brackets later today for anyone that's interested.

Yes post up some pics! If I go this route I will probably go for the 200lb spring. I believe the FE1 suspension uses higher rated springs and shocks. I want to keep the ride as similar to what I have now as possible. I don't want it to ride like a dump truck but not old man squishy either. IQWIKSIX, are you using single or double adjustable shocks? Have you tried different settings to see how it reacts?

Pronto, I've got QA1 single adjustable coil overs , gonna leave on my 150# springs and try them out first before I go ahead and change em out to something stiffer...........here's some pics of the rear coil over mount kit.
Don't forget you'll also need to order the (2) 1/2" upper shock mount spacers/sleeves as they are not part of this kit. You'll need 2 of the QA1 part #9033-101 .
I got my stuff from Summit Racing.....it was shipped to me directly from QA1 though.

If I go this route I will be getting the complete Pro Coil system since right now the shocks are stock. That mounting bracket looks way more stable than the old style.
