The NEW GN & GNX...coming soon America!!

The gnx sounds like a good platform and would be the only option I'd consider. It sounds like the gnx will be comparable to the new ford 3.5l tt sho. I had the chance to drive one of these cars and it was very impressive. I believe a guy got it to run into the 11's with tires and tune. Guys name was beefcake and believe he has some videos on youtube.

I agree with the above. If it's anything other than a rwd/awd with a turbo charged v6 or higher with automatic transmission and all black, then it's just another 1998 Le Sabre. Period. ALL Buicks besides the 70 stage 1 and the gn/gnx are just 1998 LeSabres with different shaped body panels. Old, boring, anemic 4door cars that look like a 5th grader drew the inital drawings to, and GM just copied 'em. Hate to say it but it's true.

wel they are going to make the ( SS ) ... ive already seen the new rwd v8 caprice police cars in Columbia sc in service last yr
Im pretty sure they GM has been making the Caprice since ,10 and like it the SS thats coming out this year is another Australian variant.

Hellz yeah, there is a member on Thirdgen.org running a newer GM 3500 V6 engine in his Iroc, he boosted it, running things on the cheap, and that would easily hand a GT500 its' ass on a plate (see below). I'd like to see that engine in a new GN. GM has everything she needs to build one heck of a Grand National, the question of course is... will she.

Cool combo, that track is something terrible tho

Not calling into the question of the financial where with all and prowess of the TB.com community - but I hear a lot of "If they do this - They'll get my money"
The problem nowadays is these special edition, hopped up muscle cars cost a house note - and then some.
Nothing like the affordability or the prices of the original Buck Turbo Regals
And not even close to the value afforded by the 86/87 TRs that can be purchased for 10K; plus or minus. (Apples to a goat comparison I realize)
Sure - there has been inflation over the last 25 years - for prices, not income or wages though.
Unless you are in the top 2 quintiles.
I ran the inflation calculator a while back trying to figure out what a comparable 1987 GN would cost in 2013 dollars and it comes out to approx $35,800
Maybe the new GN will be in that price range - but I seriously doubt it - with the high end platform, all the whiz bang technology and creature comforts that all cost big money.
I see Kia Optimas or Ford Fusions selling in that price range (always takes my breath away to look at new car prices)
This will probably be like has happened to so many other middle class icons - where mostly only the upper class or really well of folks will be able to afford them.
As far as "this guy has a GT500, or that guy has a ZR1"; I have a couple of friends that have high end this or high end that - mainly leased - but definitely financed.
And they damn near choke to death every thirty days. Which comes fast.
This is coming from a guy who hasn't had a car note in over 30 years though - so what do I know..

Well said Heisenburg!

Since the Regal GS AWD starts at roughly $40K, The GN will probably hit closer to $50K... I'd rather buy an 87 GNX if I had $50K to spend JMO

I know what your saying I grew up in the 70's when I first started driving could by a hell of a hot rod for 2,000.00.Now the same cars I was tearing the streets up then I'm restoring for people putting 20,000.00 plus into them I had a guy bring me a 69 cameo wanted it restore I told my partner tell him something stupid I had way to much going On at the time my buddy told him 25,000 to restore it 15,000 up front to get started trying to scare him off he said no problem and left the car no way I could pay someone that kind of money to do a old car hell that's what I paid for my house 30 years ago lol!

Just for giggles and a price comparison, I ordered a new 1969 Corvette Conv 427 435hp tri-power 4 speed car with extra hardtop the day they hit the showroom floor (Sept 68) . List price (funny the things you remember) was $5985. I was making about $8000 a year and my dad about shit when I told him my car payment was $113 a month. So car was 74% of my yearly income. So to buy a new ZL1 vette today I'd have to be making....... oops calculator won't go that high.

When the GN hit the scene I recall my uncle telling me it was one of a kind whenever we saw one at the drag strip... This so called new one needs to set the same precedence. GN should have AWD turbo, GNX AWD twin turbo for starters and both should maintain the "V6" otherwise they will need a different logo. They could even incoporate the eAssist technology in some way to help produce more power to ease the pain at the pump similar to the GS400h. That car in the above pic looks cool but it’s not a "GN" and would be a disgrace to the badge! IMO :cigar:

The car can't be a V8 eater like the old days b/c the V8s now make a little more than 200hp like they did back then. And I don't think a 600hp GN is going to get the most butts in seats. As far as price, plenty of people thought $18,000-$20,000 for a brand new Regal with a fancy engine was crazy back in the day when a new IROC was $12,000 and roughly the same for a GT Mustang. Bottom line, we're already proud GN owners, so GM isn't necessarily designing the car for us. They want people who know the legend of the GN but have the pocketbooks to pay good money to get a piece of that legend. This will be a different kind of car, but it's a different GM, and a different time too.

I did a build and price on a 2014 Regal GS and it is $43,000. I would imagine that a GNX would run at least 50 to 60K. For anyone that wants one would have to wait for a used one to pop up in a year or two unless you can pay cash for a new one. On a different note a Jeep SRT8 is around 65K :(

Latest word is the new CEO of GM is seriously considering axing both Buick and GMC brands and concentrating on Chubby and Caddy.
I do not think it will happen.

Old GNX was $30k if you could get one for sticker so $50k-$60k is about right with inflation.

That new Chevy SS sells for $47K, if you can find one. Anyone looking to by a new GNX is going to be stranded in that zone, or higher. I'm on the same page with Walt Heisenberg and now can't bring myself to finance a depreciating asset. When I bought my GN new on 2-4-88, I did it because I had that gut feeling that there would not be anything else coming down the pike to equal it for some time, if ever. And, yes, I did choke on the (gasp!) $400/month payments back in the late 80's-early 90's.. I can say that from this later viewpoint it was worth it, but sometimes back then it didn't seem like such a good move; I traded a perfectly good Monte SS in, and never missed that car at all! Got a little piece of history to show for it, and every mile has been mine.
