Looking to purchase a Handgun....what is recommended

I do!!

Its definetly a good recommendation to not point it at ones self and pull the trigger, other than that, i have not further recommendation.

Don't leave the damn gun in the truck!!:D
You were lucky that the perp didn't use it on you, had u returned....

Up close and personal?? Looks like the new Taurus Public defender could be a good choice?? Y/N??

handguns

 I don't hate a Springfield XD, but not on the same playing field as Glock. I would recommend a Glock for any occasion.

According to who:eek:

Even the gun shop I deal with says glock is the best. Having owned a 9mm & 10mm in a glock and shooting many rounds through them I wasn't pleased with the trigger. The pressure that little trigger blade puts on the tip of your finger after an all out day at the range or woods shooting a bunch of ammo didn't leave me to excited to shoot it again. After trying out a top heavy springfield I wasn't to happy with it after all the hype. After owning sig 226 and h&k usp I really liked those but they aren't cheap. Never was a 1911 fan. Then I tried out a friends S&W and it happened that we had got caught in a rain storm in the woods and a couple of the weapons found themselves in mud. The S&W was the only thing that day that took the abuse and didn't jam. That on crappy reload ammo. So with that being said I did some research and picked up a S&W M&P .40. So far so good. I really like the feel of this weapon and the trigger is so smooth and doesn't bite your finger tip after shooting it for awhile. Once I have a couple thousand rounds through it like the above mentioned weapons I will let you know where it stands amongst the others ;)

Guns are bad.

I know. One came running across the street shooting at me. Just like the automobile that was driving itself drunk and ran me down last year. lol

glock 27 i dont leave home without it. its a compact 40 that fits in youre jean pocket. very easy to conceal.deadly accurate and reliable!

I might not know much about buicks but this is what I live and die by. If its any help, rumor has it that one of the top counter-terrorist units in the world just traded in its custom 1911 for a glock. $2500 vs $400. Questions??? If we could get this performance for this price in vehicles all GN would be in the 11s. Front site....press...tango down. Glock...never look back.

I am no gun expert by any means, but this does not surprise me based on what I have seen at the local gun range. Lotta guys with high dollar 1911's that jam over and over. Now it's one thing at the gun range, but if you need to rely on that weapon on a daily basis to save your life would you want something like that? My used 2nd gen Glock19 has only been cleaned one time since I bought it about a year ago and has right around 1000 rounds through it without one single malfunction with various types of ammo. I'm sure a 1911 is a better gun in terms of accuracy, however, in terms of reliability and durability plus cost the Glock is damn near impossible to beat.

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot...guns are bad...I sold all mine and turned liberal. The government will protect us. The exhaust from those GNs are bad too. The government will save us from that as well.

Guns are only bad in the hands of an idiot with murder on his mind, and other deranged jerks in this world.

They are GREAT in the hands of responsible citizens with utmost respect for the weapons plus for target practice, hunting and personal protection.

You forgot to mention the air in the GN tires are also bad....air pollution according to the Empty Suit Administration.

these two caught my eyes....the first one is the replacement S&W .40 cal and the second one is the Taurus pt92 that was stolen... whatcha think? still looking...

I'd go with the Smith & Wesson .40.....not to sound like a bad guy, but most reviews I've read on Tauruses not been favorable...that's why I went with the Smith.

I was going to get a Taurus one time, but I went with the postive reviews on the Smith. Go to that gun shop I posted for you, go to handguns, pick out the Smiths autos, the the Taurus, look in the long list of pictures of each one, then click on it.....go down and read the reviews on each gun by the customer satisfaction rating.

Some swear by Taurus....I loved the Raging Bull .44, but, my God, it was so front heavy and they sometimes come apart in places.

This gun will be my next purchase or Trade...

Pictured is the XDM 9mm but the .40 looks identical.

Besides the intimidation looks, what influenced you to go with this type of gun? Seriously.

Concealibility? Lightweight? No jams? Light recoil? Price? Dependability?
Large magazine capacity? Breakability? (like tail lights, for instance.)

What was your main influence for this one? Clumsy people want to know.

Bruce,

click this link Springfield Armory - Introducing the XD(m) Polymer Handgun Scroll down to see the seven video's at the bottom of the page, Watch them all and tell me what you think...

First and most importantly this gun fits my hands Perfectly and I can work everything on the gun with ease.

Secondly I have personally shot this gun and love how it fires, Easy break down, Light, Compact, Available Attachments, Durability, Decent price, No jams (like my current Beretta 92fs) And holds A TON OF BULLETS!! ;)

This may be a better gun than my current favorite (Beretta 92fs)...

Scot...watched the videos....awesome. I'm sold. On all of the points that you made....it looks like a teriffic gun. I was planning at the end of this year to get a 1911 Kimber, but after seeing the XDM, I'm going to save and get the XDM.. Can't believe the simplicity of field stripping...and love being able to change the size of the grip for hands...my hands are large so that would be a plus for me to be able to adjust the grip...seriously, I was extremely impressed with it..so much that it's going to be my next gun. Just don't tell Shirley for a while.

The fit, balance and feel was the most important to me as when I first picked up the .44 629 Classic, it was love at first sight..never had a handgun fit so right and the right balance the first time...I tried lots and lots of other revolvers, but always came back to the .44 for the fit and balance. Besides the beautiful machining and workmanship...the tolerancing from the machine work is phenomenal!

I can see this is one reason you yourself are sold on this XDM..good choice. Plus the fact that you can work everything on it with ease...very important.

Thanks for sharing this video...it did sell me on it...hope you get one soon, and I'll let you know when I get mine...I believe now that nothing else will compare with this XDM...and awesome with all the accessories it comes with.

Only one thing I can't figure out....why in hell would I need 17 shots for self defense? You know, here in this state of Virginia, one can get into a hell of a lot of trouble if you shoot a perp more than twice, and any more a very expensive lawyer has to be hired to prove reason for firing so many shots, when a jury and judge will say one shot was enough to kill, why so many shots? That would be voted overkill and I'd go to prison for a long time and my wife would leave me for a Yugo owner:eek:.

For the fun factor, blazing away with that high capacity magazine would be just great at the target range. Wow. Love it, Scot. Go for it! I will, too!

First GNs now guns. I love this site. Can someone throw in pictures of hot chicks.

I just picked up a XDM 40 and love it. I tried the Glock 23 and didn't care for the grip, it was too small, my pinky finger kept falling off or felt like it. The XDM gives you a nice case, holster and a clip holder that holds 2 clips. 2 Thumbs up on the XDM
