calling everyone with rear discs, and those who know about them.

the plates are $85 shipped. contact ebmiller88 on thirdgen.org.

I still have to buy the rear rotors and calipers and shoes. I don't know what that costs yet.

if I can't make the factory parking brake cables work I'll have to get the lokar ones.

I ordered the plates, and expect them around wednesday.

Hey Badelky,

Did you ever find a way to get the e-brake cables to work? I have done a conversion to the PBR disks and I want to get an e-brake setup that works.

Thanks

Aerospace components has a setup that is a bolt on for our cars.....

Dude, Get the LS1 rear brake assembly and do the minimal fabrication that it takes to make them work. It is a piece of cake if you have the tools!
That way you can go to ANY parts store for replacement parts(i.e. rotors, calipers, pads, hardware, etc.)
Not too mention, that you will stop better than most F-bodies OR should! When I stomp on mine "I feel my brain slap the back of my eyeballs!"

OR, you could just buy the Bear system from Cottons and have great brakes and e-brake!

Yea I looked at the Baer system for the rears and for $1300 they charge about $600 more than I put mine together for. The only difference that I could really see between the set I got and the Baer system was that they had the Bear E-brake cable setup for our cars is bolt-on. My set has the same PBR calipers, and drilled and slotted disks as the Baer Sport Track at a little over $600.

It made sense that for much less than the $600 I saved I can get the proper ebrake setup from some other vendor or at the very least fabricate something up that make my Fbody ebrake cables work.

Here is a pic of the Baer Rear brakes:

Scarebird brackets

Scarebird has redesigned the brackets. See: Scarebird Classic Brakes LLC
These are designed to be use the 82-85 Cadillac Eldorado rotors and calipers. (Cadillac Eldorado 1982-97 rear rotors and 1979-85 calipers).

Ed's brackets are also bolt on.. See: Hassle free; drum to disc rear conversion brackets . These are designed to use the 92-97 Camaro brake caliper and rotor.

The axle flange may need to be machind for both kits. On the camaro brakes, it depends on which rotor is used. It may be a hassle. The axle shfts have to come out anyway. If you plan ahead, it won't be that big a deal or cost that much to machine the axleshaft flange OD.

And while you're at it, install longer wheel studs. The axles may need to be out to have enough clearance to install the studs. You may or may not need them with rotors that are thicker than the drums. Note: Aluminum drums are thicker than iron drums.

Studs: NAPA P# 641-1581 ½" longer than stock,same as Dorman 610-323.

I chose to use the LS1 conversion and it was a piece of cake to modify the mounting flanges however I do not have a car that is worth more stock, its just a highly modified 81 sport coupe so the savings vs modifying an otherwise perfectly nice 8.5 for me was a no brainer. I got the entire job done for under $250.

Just for the record, I have LS1 rears and have a working E-brake. Baers are not the only option for having a working Ebrake.

Another Option

Time to resurrect this thread with new info.

I got a new Speedway catalog. In it, there is a new rear disc brake kit for "7.5" GM. We all know that 7.5 also means the bastard brake flange type axle that the TBs came with.

This brake kit is a variation on the Eldorado/Seville brake caliper kit. This similar to Scarebirds. This a complete kit selling for $349, or $299 w/o parking brake, not too bad.

I have Eldo style parts and LT1 style parts. The problem with LT1 is that the caliper is huge and requires shock relocation. If you want the parking brake to work, you need special cables or cable adapters and brackets. I haven't tried mocking up the Eldo syle, yet.

Anyway here is the link:

I can get you the parts you need if you want to use the 93-97 Camaro calipers.

PM me if interested. You will need shock relocation brackets (have those as well).

Thx

Anybody figure out how to get e-brake cables for this type of setup? Does anybody know what model/year these pbr calipers come from?

Calipers are off a 93-97 Camaro.

Takes the same cable end as a C4 corvette (88-96)

You can contact control cables for them, or Baer has them (PM me for details) as well. They are around $100 for the pair.

Thx

Has anyone tried this?

The LT1 is a MUCH nice caliper. (93-97 Camaro)

It is aluminum (compared to cast iron), and uses a smaller piston better suited for the rear brake. If you don't car about park brake (cause the other doesn't have it) remove it from the LT1 caliper then you gain a bunch more room (might not need to relocate shocks... not 100% sure.

Just my .02 cents :)
