Out Of Ideas. =[ Help!!!

Thanks for the info. The tranny is stamped metric. I already bought the Yunick intake. So for now I will have to live with that.

I will wait on the valve covers for now because it already has edlebrock ones on it.

I will let you know about the headers by friday also.

Since the tranny is the TH200 you have a better one than the TH350, believe it or not. the only diffs between it and the 2004r is that it doesn't have overdrive. A little more expensive to build if it goes out but it's lighter and can be made stronger than the TH350. That's a good thing.
I'll wait on your answer on the headers then. What I was going to do with them before I lost my job and what I have to do now are 2 entirely different things.

I do plan on keeping the ECM as I have no idea how to mess with one of them or remove in with out screwing something up. I really like the idea of changing the cam but also do not know much about it.

I was looking into the fresh air intake just like you describe but I dont know where I would run the houses out. I was thinking about taking the inner 2 headlights out and buying these screens that I saw to make it look like the are still there. Then I found there was some Aircond. stuff in the way of it. I was going to pull it out but It was infront of the radiator and I couldnt get to it. How exactly would you run the lines?

And yes I do have the OD tranny. :)

Cool on the tranny then. That's great for sure.

Got a cheap idea for you on the air cleaner I was gonna do myself on the NA I bought. I found an air cleaner off a full sized Chevy PU with the 4.3 in it and the air cleaner will fit the Q-jet. It gives you a much bigger inlet and you can get the cold air duct off the truck as well. No vac lines to hook up either. The best thing is you can get a K&N air filter for it fairly cheap so you're good to go.

I forgot to add something for you. If you get a piece of aluminum stock sheet, about 1/8" thick, you can make a divider for the inside of the intake whick will help you on the bottom end. A cheap little mod but it does work.

Wow that sounds pretty good. =] Where could I run the line for it?

I have 1 that I won't be using now so I'll see if I can post a pic and show you where you can run it since I've got the NA here still. gotta get it back together so I can sell it now.:(

And will it fit a regular carb?

It fits a regular Q-jet so it should work on a Holley if you want to use it.

You already have a Q-jet so why are you trying to get one that won't work with the puter? That's for a non ECM controlled engine and I thought you wanted to keep it.

I do not have a Q Jet. I have the stock carb. Sorry for the confusion. It is an all stock 4.1.

??? I'm a little confused then. The 4.1 only came with a Q-jet, that's the way it came from the factory. Does it have a 2 barrel on it now? Have you looked at the casting # of the block to make sure it's a 4.1?

Correct. The only other thing you MAY have to do is put a sheet metal divider in between the center when you bolt the top plate on it. This way you go from a single plane to a dual plane intake and have very little restriction. Not an expensive mod either.

Bought the intake for $51.00 brand new. I hope its worth the investment.

Where did you find it for so little? You're a lucky bum for sure.

Now onto the air cleaner idea for you. Here's some pics I just took so you get a better idea of what I was talking about. I did a side by side comparison so you can see what the differences are.
The last pic is a kind of mock up so you get a better idea of where it fits. The interesting thing is that the heat riser is controled by heat off the manifold so there's no vac lines to hook up. The nice thing is it's just slightly higher and the original top will fit if you want a slightly lower housing. I paid $20 for the air cleaner so if you want it too we can throw it in with the headers.

Right now I have an edlebrock intake. I do like that idea though and I might try to sand one down and paint it.

I was also looking into a spectre low profile dual inlet ram air intake. Thats where I ran into truoble beacuse I didnt know where to run the lines.

I think going this way I could find a place to run one line. Just now sure where yet. Any ideas?

Do you mean air cleaner not intake? As far as to where you can run the tube look to the area between the radiator and the battery. Not a lot of room but there is enough to cut a hole and fab an intake to the cleaner. This would also give you a ram air effect for cooler air.

Heres some picks of my engine. It is deff a q jet I just thought I heard the guy I bought it from say edlebrock carb but he must have mentioned the valve covers.

Idk guys. I think I'm starting to have cold feet about this. The wiring is everywhere. I am not sure where to start and how exactly to go about this. I have never done this before. I know the basic how to do it, I think I just need some guidlines to follow. Hope I didnt bite off more than I could chew.

Any help will be much appreciated. -Thanks, Mike.

If you're scared just drive it and leave it alone. Then while you're leaving it alone you can build a bad ass blow thru carb turbo for it:cool:

Yeah I agree. How much do you think a shop would charge for doing an intake, cam, timing change and clean up the wiring, if I supplied the intake and cam?

I still think I might just do it. Mixed thoughts right now.

It may look intimidating at first but it's not that hard, really. You'll need some special tools but not that many to start with. The first thing you should do is to mark all the electrical connections so you know where they go and take some e tape and bundle the wires together so it's easier to put them back where they go. The camera is your friend and you can take pics when you remove something so you have a referance as to where it goes back on. Use baggies to keep your bolts in and make sure not to mix the bolts up.
If you can do your own brakes you can do this but it does take a little longer.
