I bought mine in 1990 ( with 32,000 miles all stock) i wanted to buy one new in 1987 but money was a issue. To this day i wish i would have bought a new one and just made payments. The sad part of all of this is the car i bought in 1990 never ran all that great, rough idle and a few various issues. All the trips to the dealer were the same, replace the mass air, coil pack, TPS and so on. ( i wish i had all those used parts back now) It was my wifes daily driver for years. It got so bad that i finnaly parked the car in 1997 and it just sat in the garage for years. My son used to harp on me for years to get it back in shape and drive it. In are around 2002 with the help of all the guys on the internet i finally got the car right. Did all the upgrades plus a few more and the car runs like a dream now. Before i got this car right with the help of you guys on the net i had a opportunity to buy a mildly modified Typhoon in 2001 in perfect shape, low low miles with the exception of a small engine stumble for around 10k ( i bet money now it was a very minor issue). I debated on that for days and the car finnaly sold.

I bought my 86 t type about 3-4 months ago from a member on this site.I had to rebuild the engine and trans as nothing in either of them was any good.I have had it up an running for about 2 months now,Still trying to work some bugs out of it.As of right now i need a higher stall converter but it still ran a 8.14 in the 1/8 with lousy 1.88 60 foot.Paint and interior work will be this winter.

I bought mine last October from a guy who had bought it from a board member on here back in February of the same year. (2007)

Purchased my '87 T in November, 1986. The Buick dealer had two T's with identical options. One was dark blue and one silver, the one I bought. (Can't remember if he had any GN's.) There was a new car show at the civic center that weekend and he wanted to put the silver one in the show. Of course, I didn't want hundreds of people sitting in a car I might buy, so I purchased it the Friday before the car show. He put the blue one in the show. If he was suckering me, it worked. And he gave me all of $500 off list. He knew I wanted that car.

I remember test driving it and two salesman came with me. It had rained a little bit and the streets were damp. He kept cautioning me not to give it too much gas because it would spin. I got on it one time and I saw what he meant.

Cashed in my wimpy 401K and bought my GN in August of `99...just before the dot.coms went belly-up!

Got mine 8-6-05, and im still trying to get it right. I remember the date because that was my oldest sons birthday.

First one is from Nov 94. I was still in HS. After it got stolen in Aug 97 i got another in October 97. Then another in Feb 2006

Went Christmas shopping December 1988, came home with an '87 GN. Enjoy it as much today as the day I bought it.

My Story

My Dad bought his 87GN new in 1988. I was 10yrs old and loved going for rides in it. At 13 I was changing the oil and driving it around the block. He had a chip, exhaust, shift kit, fuel pump, your basic upgrades. I took my drivers test in it when I hit 16 then raced it at the street legal drags. It ran 13's and as I got older I ended up taking it to prom in '96. I blew it up that night and had to call my Dad to explain why the car was coming home on a flat bed. Lets just say I got my @ss kicked the next day after I built up the courage to come home. From that point the car went to Mike Doyle's shop in Rancho Cucamonga, CA and was built with steel mains, bored 20,TRW's, front mount, bigger turbo, heads, 60lb Inj, and built trans. When the car came back it ran good. Unfortunately the car was stolen 3 months later and never even made it to the track. It was found on the frame rails in the middle of an intersection in Compton, CA 3 days later with the vin laser cut out of the windshield. 21st Century Insurance gave him 16k with all the receipts.

Then he bought another GN, stock with 45k mi. It had spoke hub caps pushed on the stock GN wheels and Lincoln Continental body kit with the spare tire on the trunk. LOL! A little old lady owned it in Culver City, CA. The car went straight to Classics By Bernt in OC and was stripped of all the crap.

My Dad drove it for a year and was feeling down because it wasn't like his old GN. He sold it to me in 97 with 55k mi, for $13,500 from that point it just got faster and faster and my wallet got skinnier and skinnier. Now we both have a good time with it.

Sorry this was a bit long but I thought it was a nice story to share with my fellow TR buddies. ;)

bought my first one injuly 2000, got a good deal on it or $5000 dollars. Its was damage when I bought it, " Car was racing and hit a tree bend the frame rail on pass side". I got my 2 one in August 2000 after finding out hot much 2 put a frame rail straighten. Sold the first one shortly after. Wish I would of kept it now.

(1996) '86 T-type - As a college student, I couldn't afford to fix all the problems so I sold it a few months later.

(2000) '87 GN hardtop - After I sold the '86 T-type I never lost interest in turbo Buicks so about 9 months after I graduated from college I bought this car. It was fine at first, but then I started modifying it and the oil companies started reformulating motor oils. I had numerous internal engine problems and finally sold it out of frustration right before my daughter was born in 2005.

(2005) '87 GN t-top - Only three months after I sold the hardtop car, I decided I had to have another one. I still own this one.

I rescued mine from my uncle's salvage yard in December of 1997. It was a totaled, recovered theft from the Baltimore/Washington area. I didn't get it on the road until May of 1999. It was 100% original at the time. It has a salvage title so I don't feel bad about modifying it. I have most of the original parts for it but I don't envision ever putting it back to stock.

87 GN in 2004 with 43k on it. It had a hypertech chip and flow master mufflers, other than that it was stock. It has 50k on it now and has a little more power.

Bought my 87 GN in 1995 with only 4700 miles on it. Now has 28K and a few mods since I bought it.:)
