Alright guys I need some comforting. My buddy is a big mustang guy. He has a friend with an 03 cobra and this is ALL he EVER talks about and its startin to piss me off. If I start to talk about the buick he just says oh yeah the Cobra did this. I am in the middle of rebuilding my GN right now and I want to DESTROY this Cobra and shut him up about it. Here is what I got. I am doing a roller cam setup from Full throttle Speed, everything but rockers and it has a 206/210 duration, Federal Mogul Forged Alum pistons from Postons, Ported and polished Exhaust, RJC power plate, RJC deep sump pan, High volume front cover, Walbro 255 fuel pump, Adj FP reg, 42.5# injec., TA-49 (about 26 psi boost), Razors alky kit, Duttweiler intercooler neck, Hot wire kit, Wires, HO coil pack, Scan master, Alky chip by Turbo Tweak, Double Roller chain, ARP studs, air bags, and will be getting a good tune after its built. This cobra is doing about 360hp and 400tq and he is putting a pulley on. What are my chances? I wanna put this thing to rest. thanks

Oh yeah I have WICKED trans kit in my 200 along with a shift kit in the cabin

I used to own a 03 cobra and they are bad mofo's. If he is just doing an upper pully and he can drive decently expect him to run at least high 11's in the 1/4th mile on DR's. What size pulley is he getting, and is he getting an upper and lower pulley? Also what other mods is he getting? The 360 hp is kinda weak for a stock cobra.

Tune good!!

With what you said you have and boost your going to run you will destroy him, mayby from a slow roll too.
Even with pullys on the stock blower unported, you will pull on him good!! Just watch out for the the Whipple and KB blowers
Heads would be nice for your combo for more power

race gas and turn the boost up

if not be prepared for a ass whoopin :)

Cobra are fast out of the box.

If he can drive and has tires you may need a little more turbo, with the unported heads. Race Gas or Alky will be a must. You will need some good tires. Have the I/C checked for leaks, stockers usually leak somewhere. Check your tune good after installing all the parts. Oh, get ready for a trans, if you make too many runs at that level the stocker will not last long.

Good luck and post results:cool:

360HP on a pullied Cobra? He's def messing with you. a Stock 03/04 Cobra will hit 12's all day, a pullied cobra w/ supporting mods will easily be in the 420+ range. I dont know what your gonna need to beat him, something in the mid-high 11's to at least go in w/ some confidence. Race him anyways, its all fun and games right??

Race him from a dead stop (guessing you can hook up). I've raced two stockers at the track beating them both. I could out 60' them by a tenth or two with my mid-12 second T. Their stock IRS doesn't hook as good as our cars solid axle. My friend at work has an 03. He made 355hp at the rear wheels when it was 100% stock.

Sometimes you have to just step back and admit when someone outguns you. I know I talk about my old cobra all the time. 600hp and 20mpg. 4.56 gears and cruised at 80mph with those gears, with no sweat. Killer sound system...they are nice cars. The 03-04's have a Supra-like bottom end that can handle whatever you throw at them. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords did a little 03 cobra testing when it first came out. They threw some slicks on and a blower pulley off a lightning. Then some spare wheels for skinnies up front and pulled the swaybar. They ran 11.60's. Hell, thats what Bob Cosby ran with a stock 99 cobra like mine (no supercharger), with bolt on parts and a live rear with 4.56's..just like mine.
The 350-360rwhp numbers are very low, and something unique about these engines, is that they are toleranced so tight that with time, they loosen up and make more power as time goes on. Plus the cams start to retard as the chains stretch and the power keeps rising with time. A K&N filter and some mufflers, and you have 420rwhp. Add a pulley and you have 460-480rwhp. If the guy has a differential brace and some good shocks with sticky tires, the 03-04 IRS rear end can handle 10's. If equipped with level 5 halfshafts, 9 seconds.
If he has sticky tires and knows how to drive, he will hand you your ass on a platter. You definitely need to bring more to the starting line. The cobras dont launch all that great compared to GN's, but once you hit 60mph, he will pass you like you're standing still.
As for the kenne bell blowers, yeah thats a whole different animal. If he has that, just bow and say no thank you sir, and walk away without turning your back to him, showing full respect. LMAO j/k. yeah, they are very fast.

They are pretty powerful from the factory - usually in the range of ~380/380 rwhp/rwtq stock. They make lots of low end torque really quick with the Eaton blower. Unless he knows how to drive, he will roast the tires on take off. If he can launch it, you had better be ready or you will be playing catch up. I used to have a modded Lightning, and I have several friends that have had/do have Cobras. They are heavy cars too.

hp #s

I have raced a kb cobra at the track that was said to make 580 hp to the rear an killed him, I think alot of people get caught up on hp #s when it's a lot more than just that like the driver. I have seen alot of stick drivers make mistakes when playing catchup so you never know good luck.

Gunna join the club... The cobras are mean mofos... You need more turbo and more injectors. A gt3161 will workt what whatever you got for a stall, and if you have a bigger stall then step up to a 6152. These are just suggestions, but Cobras are quick...

Lets just say I think it will ether be a good race or he will destroy you, but Im putting the odds in his favor unless you got some crazy sticky tires. He will chase you down though.

I ll comment on this since I own both, race from a dig and you should beat him. He is going to need a lot of traction out of the hole to reel you in. But a pullied cobra and a good tune can run mid 11s. Have fun and make sure you get it on video.

Read my signature. I love cobra's! Half of those bozo's don't even know how to drive their cars. But beware when you start beating them you will never hear the end of their excuses for why they lost. I kept spinning, I missed a gear, my tires would not grip and on and on and on.

I would agree with STAGE 5 and SLOGN , tune with alky if that's your goal later but if you want to smoke this cobra better use race gas and lots of boost , your turbo and injectors are kind of small , with roller cam you are going i would upgrade the turbo / heads /injectors too , TA 49/009' kind of small set up ,I had that long time ago , 415 RWHP at 22# with alky ,.... but I also agree with others , if he does not know how to take off without smoking the tires , you will win easy , with high boost /right tune he will never catch up .;)

My dad has an 03 Cobra and they are fast.He just did pulley, air intake, and computer programmer and put 470hp to wheels.
