My pop and I are in the process of finally finishing his new motor and are looking for another turbo to replace the 6152 he has now. This turbo pushed the car to 11 teens at 121 and that was it (25 psi w/ old motor). I'm interested to know what you all think are far as a 70 Q trim or 70 P trim...GT series. I've been entertaining the idea of the 70 GTQ for this motor but would like other opinions as well. This is a FULL weight car (heavy at 3700+ lbs w/ driver) that we're looking to dip into the mid-10's with at 123-127 mph range at 25 psi max if possible.
Here is the new combo...TIA.

Comp 210-215 hyd roller
1.55 billet roller rockers
P&P 8445's (copied off of Champion irons but taken to the next level:biggrin: )
70mm TB and Hemco
Ported lower intake w/ EGR removed (matched to new heads)
.040 over forged slugs
FMIC
MSD 55's
Dual feed meth injection (Razor's kit)
Closed loop wideband O2 a/f control
Turbo Tweek chip
9-11 converter that flashes to 4200-4400 rpm on the brake.
Turbo:?????

I would up the injector and go with a GTQ, $1074.99 shipped from Full Throttle through December.

Joe,
Go with a GT67 either in P or Q trim. You will be more than happy and wont need that much converter. Either of these units will take you where you wanna be.

Louie,
What's your reasoning behind the above statement? Here is his: He would rather have too much turbo right now and have some room to grow into it then have to spend the $$$ to upgrade a year from now....ya dig? Do you have personal experience with the GT67...likes/dislikes?

Te45a q trim from Limit...perfect for your needs; plenty big!

I ran one of these turbos back in the day and had good luck with it. I/We were thinking of taking advantage of the more state of the art GT series turbos' super efficient wheels. Keep it coming fellas.

Step up the injectors and go with 70 GTQ. You won't have any regrets and you won't have to buy another turbo for a while. Until they make the GTQ 70's series in BB.

Joe,
I have experience with both models . I know for a fact that a 67p trim will go 10.40s. I belive they have gone faster , but im confirming what Ive ssen with my own 4 eyes. Its a much nicer street turbo and only needs 3200-3400 stall. I had one on my TTYpe and it spooled very nice with a AC lock up. That car went 115 mph on 15 psi , roller cam stock motor.

The GTQ version with go 9.92 at 137.(27#) This was on my friend Don Palumbos car. Iron heads with a 218 roller. Again it will use less stall to spool. Both will go faster with less #.

I also have extensive experience with almost all 70mm turbos. We conducted the 70mm turbo test for GM Hightech mag. My GN has has 4 different models PTE being the best.

But as far as driveabilty, fun factor pump gas off the track the 67 wins hand down.

That's the kind of response I was looking for. As far as the 70's are concerned, what trim for the combo we have do you think would be optimal for the new combo? Would you suggest a P trim with .85 housing...Q trim with the .63 housing? Where I think this car will end up in the near future will be the lower side of 10's with the pump/meth combo. I'd like to see the mph in the upper 120's....who knows at 25psi what that will be though. This car hooks like mad! It's nothing on a good track with the old combo to see 1.4's and low 1.5's are almost easy. With that in mind I know the 60' will be there...I'm more interested in the mph game. The car needs to go on a diet like you can't believe....T-tops, mild steel cage, every brace known to man, full metal car, and my pop weighs 220-240 depending on how many of Poppa John's ribzzz he eats:eek:

Joe,
From the description the last post it sounds like more of a race car than a street car. The PTE70GTQ is the one to have. My GN went 10.40s with this turbo at 20 psi. 10.20s at 22 psi.

What kind of MPH were you making?

My car never did MPH very well. The fastest it went was 9.98 at 134. The fastest MPH was 135.7. The PTE70 has gone 140+ tho.

Kinda shamefull when were going now 137 on a smaller turbo.

Bigger Turbo

I Really like my PTE GT67BB that I got from Full Throttle. I too had a TE6152. It is way faster on the bottom and the top. I've heard of very low 10's with this turbo.

Hey Joe-
Bob Spicer, Troy, Greg and i were at KCIR here a few weeks back.

Troy finally got the tune down on his car, and 26psi with a 67p trim turbo went 10.68 at 127 on a 1.61 60' Thats on pump gas with a few gallons of race gas to be safe.
He was having to leave soft, cause the dual nozzle was flooding the car.
We really think the car has got alot more into it with a little more tuning and timing added to it. Just imagine what it would be if it had a GTQ in it off a hard launch?????

You did read in Louie L. 's post that Don Palumbo's car went 9.92 at 137 with the GTQ 67 turbo.. annnd i do believe it has the stock bottom end:eek:

Well, Louie took the words right out of my mouth with his first post here.
67 will get the cars MPH where you want to be, and since Papa Joes car always 60's hard, im sure it would go 10.40s

If he is looking for a precision turbo, call Tim Reed is a precision distributor here in merriam kansas, Tim is also a vendor here on turbobuick.com
...
You would have met him if you made it to the dyno shootout here back in Sept.
Your ProCharger Supercharger Source!

PS
Your dads combo is identical to the charcoal grey car in my garage.
Cept i have a 214/214 roller and cas front mount

What injectors is he going to go with 83s?

Call me tomorrow buddy

hehe....you've got opinions all over the place...so I'll just throw mine in there too ;)

I like the GT70 P trim. I had a GT67 P trim for awhile and I wasn't that impressed with it. The spoolup difference between the 67 and 70 is barely noticeable...but the power difference is huge. Personally, I would never recommend a GTQ wheel on a 67 when you can go with a 70 P trim.

My GT70 P has been 10.20's @ 133 on 24 psi  There's lots left in this turbo...and this combo, which is not far off yours.

Take it for what it's worth.

Dual Meth injection will maybe get you low 10's at best with the 55's, I would determine an E.T. and upgrade the injector a bit over that, the meth is insurance for when you slap on the T88 later:eek:.

70BB Ptrim in the .85 sounds like the best of both worlds for you, street spool and big top end to run high 9's if you wanted.

From what I have read on here, the 67Q is a bit slower to spool than the 70 Ptrim and is around the same MPH.

I would give Jack Cotton a call and ask him about the turbo he sold "Grumpy". It obviously works and works well, just take a look at his daughters car. From what I see you have listed above it would appear that it would work well with your combo as well. If I am not mistaken it is a dual BB 66 but again Jack would know for sure. Hope this helps.

No doubt it's a great turbo BUT it's only one piece of the puzzle as most people know. The turbo isn't the only reason that Melissa's car runs like it does but it def plays a part. Results will/may vary......like anything else.

I too agree it would be the best current choice turbo for Turbov6joe in my opinion. Mid 10s @ 127 mph won't be a problem for the turbo. Street manners are just about perfect and it will go faster when the time comes.

We're thinkin of tryin the 67 GTQ on Mel's to see how it compares to the T-netics @ the track...........:) Another one of our "ideas" we gotta get by the "boss".....
