Broken power antenna.. pulled it out...same old story - broken nylon cable. I read an old post where a guy replaced the nylon with a weed wacker cable. It got me to thinking. The nylon is held into a metal sleeve by 4 indents , two on either side of where the nylon is slipped into the metal sleeve. If I drilled the 4 indents out, removed the old nylon cable and replaced it with a braided steel cable of the same diameter (go look at the cable on your garage door). Hold in place by punching new indents.
Seems to me this would never break. The only drawbacks would be it would possibly be noisier, and could wear out the areaswhere it slides through more quickly, but I'd grease everything thoroughly. Besides, it's not like it's being used everyday, so I'm not sure wear would be an issue.
Any thoughts? Stupid idea or good idea? Thanks.
