would this internal gate work??

Saw this on e-bay and thought it might work as a basis for a simpler down-pipe for my hot air car...I don't have heat or A/C and am looking to get rid of some bends and run a more direct pipe. Would this type of gate bleed off enough boost fast enought to work?
