I have access to a 2004R from an 84 T-type that has been sitting for 4 years. I also have a 2004R that is working perfectly in a stock 307 powered 95,000 mile 88 Olds Cutlass. Secondly I am not sure to what level I will need to have it built up to survive behind a 509ci Cadillac motor that should make about 575lbs or torque. It will be pushing the Cutlass with 3.42 gears and 28" tall drag radials. After getting it sorted out it won't see alot of track action. It may run on a pair of borrowed slicks to see what it will do but after that it will be back to the drag radials. As for abuse level I also have an 87 GN that I bought new, its run 12.7 at 107 on retreads has 90,000 miles and never had the tranny apart so I not normally stupidly abusive.

PS The convertor is a non issue.

As long as the 84 T-type tranny is the BQ tranny, it would be a better one to start with than your other choice...
