What triggers the brake lights?

I see there is a switch on the brake pedal and an electrical plug on the factory proportioning valve along the frame. Which one of these is responsible for brake lights?

Switch on the pedal activates the lights, plug on the prop valve is for the brake warning light on the left side of the cluster.

Perfect! I was hoping it was the pedal. I stripped all my old brake system years ago and everything is going back together different. I didn't want to have to worry about that factory plug on the prop valve. I'm just running an adjustable prop valve in the rear line only.
