I saw a 5w50 oil at R&S Strauss. It was the Pennzoil brand synthetic. Wondering if this weight oil is ok to use when summer comes.

if you want thicker oil, run straight 20 or 30 weight.......5W isn't exactly thick......

I run straight 30w in the summer and 10w 30 in the winter. Oil preasure stays the same about all year long that way. If I run 10w 30 in the summer it runs a little low at hot idle.

Just my .02

I use 10w40 red line oil, I only drive my car summer and spring.

Thicker oil in the summer works. On the extreme end I ran straight 60wt when I had a severe rod knock. Anytime the rpms went over 2,000 with the oil cold it would blow the filter off. I oiled down my street several times. :) My parents really liked it. I can still follow the oil paths where the filter first blew off to where I flipped a U all the way back to the driveway.

Oldsmobile BB engines with Hi-vol oil pumps will do that too. It makes one hell of a mess!!
