volt light problem

volt light would not come on unless i plug these 2 together . friends have told me not to plug them but then the charging system will not work . can i leave them plugged and will it harm anything ?

The green connector I beleive is the tachometer signal and the black one energizes the fuel pump when you apply 12v to it. Not sure on the long term affects of leaving these 2 connected but what you really want is a field fix harness:

Those connectors have nothing to do with the charging system. As mentioned above the green connector is a tach test point and the black connector is to power the fuel pump. If you connect them together your tach won't work.

just went to the car a turned the key to the on position and the volt light came on . i guess my battery was not fully charged . thanks guys
