you pull it straight out.........if you have cruise, there is a small wire that runs down the column to a connector down at the bottom, tie a piece of wire or string to it and then pull out the lever, leaving the string in the column, then tie it to the new lever and pull from the bottom while fishing the cruise wire thru the column, then it just snaps back into place.
