Trans Jumping

When I put my GN into reverse to back out for a spin, it "jumps" into gear. If I quickly shift from R down to D (even when stopped) it "jumps" into forward motion. I do not hear any clunking noise like it might be a u-joint, but at the same time I have not checked the u-joints either. Any ideas what this might be?

My idle is 850 during this.

what do you mean? you got your foot on the brake, and you shift into gear and it shifts hard? Is that what's going on?

yes, sort of slams into gear. Does this from Park to Reverse, and from Reverse to drive.

Mine goes into reverse and drive kinda hard too. I'd rather have it do that then slip into gear like my iroc used to.

That's a characteristic of the trans. GM put a "garage package" in the 89 TTA's to help deal with this but IMHO its a non-issue as I'd rather it go into gear with "authority" than slide into gear fwiw.

ok, just wanted to be sure it wasn't a symptom of something more problematic. I'll check the cable adjustment.
