Hot Air 85

turning parts into TR

I have a 1985 hot air with a bad tranny pump and will be pulling that for re-build. I have picked up a "CQ" Tranny from an 1985 Monte SS with converter.

Questions:

1) What converter should I use? TR or Monte
2) What TV cable should I use? TR or Monte (monte's in better shape)
3) Will I have any drivability problems with this band-aid tranny?
4) Any tips for doing this from under the car?? Turbo will be off for instalation of new injectors.

Thanks, Jeff

any help appreciated

Anyone? I know its a hack fix but need the car to move

Thanks, Jeff

the ss trans will work greatif your gn trans is an 85 itll have the same size servo.you should use the gn servoinstall this kit and all should be great if the trans is in working order.(servo included).both converters will be right around the same stall.install the one that is cleaner,ie the converter with the better neck, fluid,no bluing etc.use the buick cable.SHIFT RECALIBRATION KIT #24RSRK/A $129.99
The main focus of this kit is to reduce clutch and band slippage common with the factory hydraulic calibration. This easy to install kit includes all the necessary parts to recalibrate the hydraulic circuitry of the GM2004R transmission for high performance street and dragstrip usage. This is accomplished in many ways.New .500" TV boost valve, and .296" intermediate boost valves and a heavy duty pressure regulator spring significantly raise transmission mainline pressure to increase clutch and band apply pressures. A new AC/DELCO seperator plate is properly orificed to increase the flow of oil to the friction elements. Re-engineered springs for the accumulator valve, line bias,1/2 accumulator ,and 3/4 accumulator, and an updated 3/4 accumulator piston introduce a throttle sensitive accumulator and pressure rise system that meets the demands of high output engines. This reduces friction element failure and excessive heat build up during and after ratio changes. This kit allows the shifts to get shorter and firmer as the throttle is opened, resulting in clean ,positive gear changes at small throttle angles without the "bangs and clunks",and short firm shifts with larger throttle angles. Most kits do not have this feature engineered into them resulting in brutal part throttle shifts that beat and break internal components as well as generate many new drivability complaints.Hundreds of these kits are in use and this kit is recognized as the best of its kind.includes all the necessary gaskets and instructions. Please note that high performance applications will benefit from the use of a larger intermediate servo to multiply the clamping force applied to the intermediate band.If your transmission is not from an 86 / 87 Buick Grand National or 89 Turbo Trans Am which was factory equipt with a high performance intermediate servo assembly, the use of a high performance servo assembly should be considered. The following 2 kits include intermediate servo assemblies.

SHIFT RECALIBRATION KIT W/ GN SERVO #24RSRK/B $219.99
This kit consiststs of the SHIFT RECALIBRATION KIT #24RSRK/A but includes a 86 / 87 Buick Grand National intermediate servo assembly. This servo is used to multiply the clamping pressure applied to the intermediate band on a 1/2 upshift. It is capable of handling power levels of up to 450 foot pounds of torque.

Thanks

Thanks for the input...i'm not looking to spend $$$ on this monte tranny just looking for it to bolt up and make this car go....it's a stock Hot Air at stock boost. I will be re-building & upgrading the stock TR tranny this winter and hope to get a copy of your book as a guide.

Thanks, Jeff
