After replacing my 3rd gear frictions, my tranny builder forgot to tighten the TCC solenoid bolts. I went to the track and made 6 passes and not until #5 did I realize that the TCC was not locking. Anyhow, I got it home and dropped the pan to find the 2 bolts attached to the BIG magnet in the pan, and the solenoid itself was just hanging in its bore....can't remember what was holding it in place, but it had not fallen completely out. My questions are these:

Is there a chance anything was harmed with the solenoid not in place? If so, what?

The tranny is obviously set up as a LU unit, by not having that solenoid in place, what was going on in there the way it was?

Could someone explain in detail how the TCC solenoid functions? I'm curious to know where that fluid was going with the bore basically open!

TIA

it comes from the 1/2 shift valve and is sent to the tcc valve bore right above the retainer and snap ring.
