The older 6.2's/6.5's looked more like Olds motors to me.

We had a 99 Suburban. Downsides were the front end going out of alignment. The brakes were just bad. Needed replacing every 20,000 miles. Good ride but the newer body style is much improved.
The 02 has 4 wheel disc brakes. The 5.3 is a great motor plenty of power.
If you want to tow a trailer or car they will work. If you will be doing a lot of it, look at the 2500s. All the seating, comforts, and towing capacity wrapped into one.
I will have to say you should look at the Excursion with a PowerStroke diesel motor. They do the job very well.
It will probably go down to price between the two of them.
