Is it normal for the 1986 buick 231 Turbo engines to rattle a little once cold started, just a small growel before oil pressure is up.

Do you use a certain oil filter to eliminate drain back to pan?

Let me know

I would say no. Noise is normally bad. Ever had your oil tested for metals?

What else can you tell us?

How many miles? ANy engine work done? what is your oil consumption? What is the oil pressure??

Where is the noise coming from?

The milage is 66k, synthic oil only used, replaced valve springs 1k ago, oil consumption is 1qt in 3k miles.

Compression test showed 145-150 on 5 of the cylinders and 135-140 on 1 cylinder.

The noise sounds like it may be the roller lifters pumping up, is this possible the noise at start up cold, no noise hot.

Tom:rolleyes:

Before everyone jumps to conclusions about his motor being shot, try a different oil filter..

I use AC filters..

Goodluck..
