Shrader valve-core

Friend of mine has a Grand Cherokee whose AC charging service valve is leaking slightly. I have about 6 repair service valves and would like to know if the valve core from a repair kit will work on the car's AC service valve? From what I understand, the industry is standard and it should work, just like to make sure before we go losing more charge.

Thanks,

Walt

I used one from a tire repair kit on the high pressure side valve and it has not leaked yet, but only been about 3 weeks.

My hunch was right, they are interchangeable. If it was to leak, it would have done so long before this. Thanks for the input.

Another way

I had the same problem. I replaced the Shrader valve core and it still leaked.

The cheap, easy fix was to install another pressure cycling switch with an o-ring. I didn't connect anything to it. I just used as an additional seal.

I didn't even have to use the special valve changing tool which keeps the refrigerant from escaping while changing the valve or dump most of the refrigerant while changing the valve.

All is good.
