Shifter Cable

My shifter cable seems somewhat "stiff" when shifting into and out of gear. I've lubricated the linkage near the transmission which didn't seem to help much. Any suggestions on how to lubricate the cable(or does it need to be replaced)? If not what lubricant would you recommend for the cable?

Routing

I would take a look at the routing first. See if the cable is binding against anything, if all is clear.

The second thing I would do to diagnose your issue is disconnect it from the tranny shifter. Try to move it back and forth and see if it gets caught. The cable could be frayed internally and catching on the jacket. No lubrication in the world will help you and eventually the cable will fail.

If the cable is bad, the challenge is finding an OEM cable, if you can't find on you can go to and tranny shop and get a universal.

if its a stock shifter. then check the linkage rods that go to your column under the hood near the firewall. I have seen those bind up and cause this problem
