scanmaster not reading

hope everyone is having a good holiday season, has anyone had the wire going to the aldl connector go dead? scanmaster comes on reads version 2.1 then turns off, new install just hooked up in overhead console, you can extend the white wire without losing signal correct? is there anybody with the instructions scanned already of coarse I lost mine installed it months ago just now hooked it up thanks as always have a goo new year everyone
