I have the 85 t type wheels and they have been sitting in my garage for 5 years. I have been wanting to get them refinished and I was reading some past posts on guys who redid their own wheels. I have all the necessary equipment except for the powder coating stuff.

Can I use my spray guns and regular clear coat?
What is best for stripping the wheels completely?
Should I paint aluminum base then clear?

Thanks

1. what i did is strip the paint with aircraft stripper then rinsed the wheel

2. then used etching mag wheel cleaner for the aluminum part then rinced

3. taped off and painted the black paint then cleared the whole rim so its eisier to clean before a show.

heres the end result

Looks good, I ll post my pics of my T Type rims when I get them finished this spring

I had some bad stains that nothing would bring out. Including some self inflicted stuff (don't use AL brightener on wheels).

I bead blasted the wheel back to a good AL finish.

Repolished the ribs and rims with Tripoli and white rouge (lots of work)

And recoated with Easwood diamond coat. In the If redone I would use clear powder coat.

Here is a pic of 1 of my Restored T wheels & it's Police package correct 225/60/VR15 Goodyear Eagle Gatorback tire.
