where is it on a stock 81 regal? in the prop valve? master cyl? going to rear disc and need to delete it.

anybody know the answer, i get three different answers at another site, one guy says prop valve, 1 says master cyl, and one joker says the car doesn't have one but that he had to replace his prop valve with brass "t" fittings and a wilwood master cyl. to get it to work right.

I just switched to rear blazer disks on my car. I took out the combo/prop valve and installed a T in the front lines and a wilwood adjustable prop valve in the rear line.

I did a search before I did anything.

wasn't you who i was referring to, somebody pm'ed me saying that on a local message board. i called the dealership on friday, they said that it is definitly in the proportioning valve, sorry if you felt insulted

btw, did a little research of my own, your first article didn't tell the whole story...

http://www.tsmmfg.com/Troubleshooting.htm#CAUSES for brakes getting hot (rear only)

your article didn't even mention the residual valve at all, my car does have one.

To many similarities. I'm glad you weren't talking about me.

That article does mention the Metering valve. Thats what takes up the slack in the rear cylinders. The back brakes get pressure from both the front and back of the master cylinder till the threshold pressure has been reached and then the front gets full pressure.

Like your car if my car had a residual valve for the rear brakes then I should of had a problem with tight rear brakes with the disks. I had no issue with the comb/prop valve. Tires turned easily in the back. I just didn't have enough brake pressure going to the back so I basicly did what the Thirdgen article recommended and my brakes work great.

And I'll agree compression fittings on the brake lines are bad idea on brake lines. I think it's also illegal. Always double flare brake lines.

thanks, the guy at the dealer said that it was in the prop valve on most cars, but i have a spare i plan to dismantle to see if it's true or not, thanks for the info, i plan on using an aftermarket prop vale if i have to and that article had a better explanation on how to make adjustments than the one i found.

Hydroboost Vs Vacuum Vs Powermaster

Hi There. There Is No Residual Valve Used In Any American Car Since 1972. It Is Not In The Prop Valve, I Rebuild Them. We Sometimes Add Them If Someone Is Using El Dorado Rear Calipers, As They Will Retract When You Are Not Looking, Causing The Pedal To Drop. I'm Not Sure What Your Problem Was, But I Can Help With It.
