Reinstalling Oil Pan

When reinstalling the oil pan, how important is it to put back the clip that holds the transmission line on the front passenger-side oil pan bolt? I'm having a lot of trouble getting that clip onto the stud that comes off that bolt, and the lines feel pretty secure/solid without it. Thanks.

I like to put it back if possible but most just chuck it since it's a PITA to put it back...just take some vacuum hose...split it lengthwise...and RTV it to the tranny lines where they contact the crossmember...this will keep them from rubbing and prevent a leak in the future...

Thank you! You don't know how happy you've made me (or how much cussing you've kept me from doing).

trans leak

Make sure the trans lines wont rub on the starter motor either,
I think they run pretty close and may rub without the clamp.
This happened to a friend of mine and it doesnt take long for
all the fluid to leak out.
