Redline?

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out whether my tranny is shifting right or if it is governed. I'm fairly new to Buicks and have an 85 T-type. I've messed with the TV cable and find that when I set the 1-2 shift to 4300 or so, it goes well. However, I was told redline is typically much higher than that on turbo Buicks. But when I set it to shift at 5000 RPM, the car boggs down (i.e. stops gaining power) after the tach hits 4300. Is it governed? Or is there some other reason it might be bogging down? Or is it just supposed to shift at around 4300? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Typical shift points are about 4800, give or take--

If you're bogging down after 4300, the usual culprit is weak valve springs, these engines are famous for that! However, they're ALSO famous for wearing out cams--fairly tempermental in the valve spring pressure department!

The motor was rebuilt 2000 miles ago to stock specs. It has brand new valve springs.

Or maybe the other infamous culprit - knock retard? Do you have some type of knock detector?
Just my 2 cents (Wouldnt rule it out right away with a turbocharged car).

I hope i dont have the same problems with my car when its finished :D

P.S. i still havent seen that set-up you to installed the DZ was telling me about.

Sisaro, who are you? I have a guess but am not 100% sure.

You will have to check out our setup sometime, its pretty neat.

Maybe in January, we will be gone until then. Send me an e-mail in Jan. and we will show it to you.
