I just bought a 8.5 10 bolt from the junk yard for $95 dollars out of a 1986 olds 442. I believe it is a non posi unit with a 3.73 gear. I was thinking of putting a eaton's unit in it when I was told that I could use one from a impala ss 94-96 which is a eatons from the factory. I wanted to know your imput on this would you use a used posi unit in your car to save a few hundred dollars. What other cheap upgrade could I do for the back brakes this is all going on a turbo charged fuel injected monte carlo ss.

I don't see anything wrong with doing it other than you'll have to have custom 31 spline axels made for it. You should be able to have the axels built for less than $300.00. On the brakes you can use the soft shoes, with all long ones. Use 85 S-10 with manual brakes wheel cylinder.
