Real Knock vs False Knock

At what point is it definitely false knock? I have never had knock in the car before, but recently noticed readings on the Scanmaster of 12+. Please tell me this cannot possibly be real knock. What is the limit of knock before you're driving right over the crank and spewing engine parts all over the road.....4,5,6,7.....?

Also, if it is false knock, what should I look at as the culprit?
