I’m wanting to remove the headlight bezels and grill to do a touch up paint. I’m a complete novice with paint. I have a couple questions:

  • What grit sand paper would I use to sand them first?
  • Do I need to prime or just paint?
  • What brand or rattle can paint would you suggest?
Thanks in advance.

dont sand
clean soap and water and a brush
you can use adhesion promoter but the trim black already has great adhesion
paint with light coats SEM trim black

I've never tried it but wonder if that Rust-oleum ReColor would be good for that. Suppose to be good for plastic, metal, stone, etc.

Painting the grill requires a special touch. If you have a picky eye, and have not developed the feel for for a rattle can, your not going to be happy with the results.

Even to the professional eye the grill should appear as if it was never painted at all. It is a rare that someone gets it this way.

NY Twin is right if you are "a complete novice with paint", you might want to trust it to someone with experience.

But if you're feeling froggy, for the bezels, you can lightly scuff them up with a gray 3M scuff pad, the key word here being LIGHTLY. That will help with adhesion.

The SEM Trim Black is the best choice for paint.

Dang. Thanks. Any for sale by chance?

Intercooled88's or WE4 here on the board might have what you are looking for. They have a LOT of parts between them.

Reach out.
