Radiator fluid level ?

I've installed a new repro aluminum radiator in my Grand National from Alradco.

I filled the system after the thermostat opened with the heater on high. All my hoses and fittinsg are secure and don't leak.

After closing a filled system (to the top of the neck) with the overflow tank at the proper level, I took it for a 1 hour ride After cool down I took the radiator cap off and noticed it was about an inch down on fluid.

My question is.....what is the normal fluid level supposed to be in the radiator after use.....right to the top of the neck as filled or down a bit ?

Thanks !

If the rad was down on fluid but overflow was not then check your cap. When the system cools it pulls from the overflow.

are the hoses hard when it's up to operating temo?

the radiator should be full- that's the whole purpose of the overflow tank, to give it a place to expand into as it warms up and suck back out of when it cools down.. test the cap, i bet it's bad..

Mine did this also.... seemed as if it was only being pushed into the overflow. I replaced the cap and it now flows back And forth into the radiator now. Check your cap
