PCV Check Valve Fell Apart

My pcv set up is: PCV valve = Check Valve = Filter.

In changing the filter today I noticed an odd little spring in the hose leading to the filter. So I took off the check valve and noticed the spring, the o-ring, and the ball bearing had all come out of the valve. The ball bearing was sitting in the check valve (gravity would hold it there) but the spring and the o-ring were in the hose.

If I didn't have that Fram filter there to filter the oil out of my intake, I would have swallowed those metal pieces! OUCH!!

The check valve I got from Kirban's a few years back seized up completely where it wasn't allowing air to go past BOTH sides of it. That was causing my crankcase to build pressure even under normal cruise. I was getting quite a bit of oil out of my breathers. I yanked it out and now just run a straight PCV and now I get VERY little oil on the breathers (only under hard boost). I'm gonna look for a better check valve to use in conjuction with the PCV.
