What is the purpose of the baffle thats welded in the 86-87 oilpans? I just picked up a 14 bolt oil pan to use with my 4.1 build and it does not have a baffle in the bottom and I am just curious if it will hurt it for it not to be there.

its there to help keep oil in the pan and not up in the rods/crank,thus slowing down the crank speed, kinda like a windage tray. They came on all turbo v6 engines that I know of,I`ve seen em on 84to 87 models, cant say so on the older carbed models---good idea to have one,at least the factory thought so-------

+1 my 84 14 bolt pan has a baffle in it. if you need one you can get a nice deep sump from rjc. he has the 14 bolt pans with the baffle in them
