thanks in advance,
I am looking at what i believe is a GN but when i pulled the carfax, it said t-type.
1 is that the same? i know there is a difference but are all GNs t-types?
2 the vin is 1g4gk4770gp448786
3 it looks a little rough around the edges, but it is 20yrs old. owner wants 12.5 and it has about 48k miles. deal or no deal. it has t tops and looks good inside. I believe it has been mostly sitting because the last inspection was 02.
I havent driven it, so i am still pondering the decision. any help would be appreciated as i am new to this car.
thanks, jesco

Check the RPOs

Check www.gnttype.org for a list of RPO codes to look for when looking at the car. There is no (feel free to unleash your torches if I"m wrong) VIN difference between GN's and any other TR. The RPO codes are where the GN package is indicated. If it doesn't have the right code, it's not a GN which affects its collector value. You might not really care about collector value if you just are going to drive it, but I would be highly suspicious of a misrepresented car.

Go through the TR purchase inspection on the above website. I did buy a car without driving it via Ebay but if you CAN drive it, definitely do so. I would run far away from a car that the seller did not want me to drive.

Welcome!

Find the RPO List and Buying advice by clicking these links.

$12,500 for a T Type that is 'rough around the edges' seems steep to me. If you mean rust, it is definitely too much money.

You are looking for the WE2 option to have a GN (look under the trunk lid for the list of options). A T Type is a suspension option....What you want is an 86-87 T Type with the LC2 engine option. T Types are not as popular as a GN (but I prefer them). Lots of nomenclature changes from year to year, but what I'm writing is generally true.

Get someone who is familiar with these cars to go with you to drive the car....Will be a big help!

:)

seems a little high to me too. with 48k on the clock it should still be in very nice condition. If it needs body work and paint, 8-9 would be tops for me.

seems a little high to me too. with 48k on the clock it should still be in very nice condition. If it needs body work and paint, 8-9 would be tops for me. Be patient, i've seen cars in very nice shape go for way less than that. Don't get in a hurry when it comes to buying the right car. If you have to second guess yourself on the price, its not worth it.

impulse

thanks fellas.
yes it does need paint.
i am very impulsive, but i think i see the light.
no rust that i have seen although there is a considerable build up of leaves and such in the crevices around the hood/trunk...
man she is sweet though.
i have a 96 vortech cobra and an 06 gto, so i need an 86 to keep with the 6 year theme.
thanks again.
also i have read the buying stuff, but want to get to be more familiar with these cars in general. any suggested reading? or should i keep reading on the forum(and take things with a grain of salt)?

Basic (and I mean really basic) stuff is -
Is it black? Does it have the GN badges and interior? Does it have a hood ornament? Center console?
Is there a chance that it's a WE4?

thx again

we4?
ill have to look that one up.
thanks again fellas.
when Im all knowing about these cars, I will be sure to pass on what I know as liberally as you guys have.
