I own an 83 Cutlass with a stock 3.8 driving it. This summer, when im back home from school, im doing a motor swap. Unfortunately im still trying to decide which option is better. You see my father is a huge GM car nut and has many different set ups that i can consider. the two major ones being:

a. 383 4-bolt main
b. 3.8L turbo (out of a 78/79) carbeurated.

i know many ppl dont say alot of good things about these carbeurated turbos, but my dads got one of those 650 seca turbo yamaha bikes, and that thing goes like a bat out of hell.

any advice on which to consider would be greatly appreciated, just keep in mind my student bugdet.

Well :)

IMO the choice is easy. (Because a have a”79” Buick V6 in my 80 olds)
The carbed turbo engines are hard to find parts for, But everybody has a SBC.

It is your car; do what you want.
