I spent a good deal of time today watching the ANSWER anti-war rallies today on C-span. I watched with an open mind and great interest in what they had to say. I was very disappointed.
Some of their speakers comments follow(not word for word, but close). I just have to comment on most of these:
Cuba is a beautiful country with jobs for everyone, no poverty, great public healthcare and a just government.(head is in the clouds)
Iraq has done nothing to deserve war, is a peace loving country, is fair, just and honest.(Compared to hell maybe)
The world has spoken, we are the majority, if Bush goes against us he is the criminal (It's the United States of America dumbass, not the United States of Earth)
Bush is already responsible of the most evil war crimes in history.(What war would that be from)
Bush is evil(about a thousand times)
All Gays, transvestites, bi's, tri's etc. etc. support Iraq and it's people, because the US repress them as it does us. (You would be tortured and then shot in Iraq)
Israel and the US are the real terrorists
We should learn to live in peace with those who hate us
and on, and on, and on
My breakdown of the rally is as follows:
Facts presented: <0%
Hypocricy presented: >100%
Personal agendas presented: >100%
Heasay, Rumor, BS presented: >100%
Alternative ideas presented: 0
Overall it was great comedic material. I hope someone good jumps on it.
I sent an email to ANSWER, hopefully they will reply. I plan to send more to other organizations that had reps at the rally. I want to see how deep the ignorance and denial goes.
Here is my email to answer(internationalanswer.org):
Hello,
I watched the rally today on C-span and have a few questions:
What do you think would have happened to everyone at the rally if it had taken place in Iraq in an effort to stop Hussein's invasion of Kuwait? You would all be dead or in prison.
Where were your rallies when Hussein invaded Kuwait? Where was your solidarity with the Kuwaiti people who were murdered. raped, robbed and imprisoned? You did not rally because it did not fit your personal agenda's.
Why did no one talk about the civil liberties and human rights violations taking place in Iraq? Because in reality you have no, nor do you intend to have any real solidarity with the Iraqi people
It is readily apparent that your position on the Iraq crisis is due to your ignorance of the specific circumstances of the situation. It would be wise to educate yourselves with real facts rather than falling victim to your own misinformation.
It should also be know to you that you are not the voice of the majority. You are a very few relative to the whole and you are misinformed, misguided, unrealistic and out of touch.
You all claim to be patriots, but nothing could be further from the truth. Regardless of what you have contorted the meaning of patriot to be from some ridiculous textbook definition, you are not. A patriot is defined by his actions, you people are defined by your words.
Patriots founded and built and died for this country to end repression, they will soon be fighting and dying to end the repression of the people of Iraq.
