When I was at Cotton's a coupla weeks ago, one of the guys there mentioned that the Mohegans (from the casino) were gonna buy the old Connecticut International Raceway in Colchester, and turn it into an NHRA-quality track. Consumer Reports supposedly uses it now for testing. Anyone heard anything about this?

Yeah some guy at work told me that very same thing.

I have no idea if it's a rumor or not.

Not much help I know but they certainly have the money to do it. :)

The latest word seems to be that the Colchester track is definately not being sold, but that Mohegan is going to build their own track.

Who knows.

Please.........If there's a god. Don't care WHO builds one, I just hate having to drive over an hour to LVD. :D

That's why I haven't made the trip up to LV yet....too long of a ride to race, and maybe break something:D

How long has it been since CT International was running? 15-20 years?

Steve

I think CT Dragway was closed sometime in the mid 80's. I don't think the track would ever reopen due to all the housing that has been built around there. I went to a cruise on the Colchester green about a month ago and still can't believe how close a dragstrip was to where I live. Hell, I would love it if LVD was only an hour away. It's a 2 hour trip for me from Branford, CT.

I know Mohegan sun was sponsoring a funny car but would they build a track for it to run on? We can only dream! I know there was talk a few years back about someone putting in a track at the East Hartford Pratt & Whitney plant. Guess the plant is closed now and there is plenty of asphalt already there. Never heard anything else about it.

The Mohegans have lots of $$$ so why not spend it on a dragstrip. Maybe even put some slot machines in the pits!

I heard the rumor about the proposed track at Pratt & Whitney a couple of years ago too. Also heard rumors of a track that was supposed to be built in Palmer, MA, but nothing ever happened with that either.

You guys are right. There was talk a few years back about building a strip at the old air field at Pratt & Whitney but they decided to build the new UCONN stadium instead. I also heard the rumor about the Palmer Ma. site but I think that was just that. A rumor. We can only hope SOMEONE will build one SOON before they make us all drive hy-bred Honda's with 0-60's in the 1 minute range. I also heard a RUMOR about one being proposed at the Thompson Motor Speedway a couple years back, but have'nt heard anything since.
