Low mile 87 gn

What is everyone's opinion on what an 87 gn is worth with 1,400 original miles? It's a one owner, all original, kept in a climate controlled environment. Looks like brand new with the window sticker and paper work. I would really like to have it. I have a 84 now with 86,000 miles that I bought in rough shape and completely rebuilt it to original condition that I have done most of the work myself and have $12,000 in it. I know what it costs to do all that is needed to restore these cars, but would like to have one of the first and one of the last. I also want a car that I don't feel guilty about driving. I drive my 84 about 60 miles a year, but enjoy every mile of it. If I was to buy this car, I would be afraid of driving it and putting miles on it. I could have a higher mileage gnx for what they are asking, but it is literally a brand new 87 gn in 2011. What's everyone's thoughts? Thanks in advance for your advice. I don't know if they started and run it for a while on a regular basis. I'm concerned that the gaskets and seals have dried out and will leak like a seive if I ever would like to drive it. How much value do you think I would lose if I would drive it around 50 miles per year. I really want one that I can drive and enjoy.

a 1400 mile gn is a low mile gn but no where near what a GNX is worth. not even a high mileage GNX.

a 1400 mile gn is worth between $26-32k depending on options and condition of paint especially of course. astro roofs and hardtops will pull more. power seats and windows pull slighty more to most as well but thats common so no big prize there.

condition will dictate that price variation. from the sounds of it he is asking way more then that.

dont get beat on a rediculous price. several years back I would say that car would pull about $35k. not today and not for a LONG time to come if unfortunately.

not to mention mileage can be turned back easily on these cars and the cluster can be swapped even easier. carfax dont mean chit!

first of all ur not gonna drive it 50 miles a year. thats one or two trips to the car show if its close by. be realistic. if u rarely drive it ull put on atleast 500 miles a year at a minimum.

anything under 5k but more then 1k miles will pull about the same money. 5k-10k will yield a little less but not enough to not drive it.

the car just isnt that old yet to pull the kinda coin some of the older muscle cars are pulling. dont let someone fool u into thinking differently.

dont forget the original paint on these would not even be as good as a low budget Maco paint job today. not to say there are not nice ones with decent paint but decent is all it compared to todays modern paint and materials.

Thanks for your opinion gnbtrette. The asking price is $55,000 (which i know you can ask for anything). I was thinking offering $35,000 for it. Just not sure what to do. Factory paint isn't perfect, but its factory. The painting I do isn't perfect either. It dont need paint or anything else. Its pretty much a new gn. I'm just thinking if i buy a 87 gn with around 80,000 miles or more its going to cost me give or take 8 thousand. Its going to have crappy paint and who knows what the engine or trans is like. If I could find one of them, with the potential engine and trans rebuild plus body work and paint????? I try to do most of the work myself, but can't do it all. I put $10,000 in my 84gn plus the $3.000 I paid for it.(which i thought was a good deal). I would be lucky to break even on that if I was to sell it. Just looking for a good deal that I don't have to put a bunch of money in.

GNBrett was right on the money with his values, if you have $35k in it, you will have to much.

$55,000 for a "regular 'ol GN":eek::eek::eek: and one more...

Tell the guy to lay down the crackpipe & slowly back away.

I'd buy this car http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/cars-sale/328113-gnx163-sale.html in a New York minute, over the 1,400mi GN. Basicly the same money....

I'm never gonna be "that guy" who tells a seller what he/she car is worth, because a car is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay.

However, 55K for a GN:rolleyes: Maybe in another 50 years at the B-J auction, when the majority of us are dead 'n gone.

..... Its pretty much a new gn. ....

Sorry, a 25 year old GN is FAR from a new car.

I have a 9K mile 1987 that I purchased new, and so far the fuel pump was replaced, both power window motors, power antenna not working, paint was crap and had it repainted and a few other "minor" items under the hood.

It is only going to get worse from here.

If some fool would offer me even $40K, he would own it! :D

I agree with the numbers here, but I'm surprised there are actually others that agree as well. Most on this board would say that a GN with 1000 miles or so is worth $40K and not a penny less.

If you are willing to spend $35K, you will find one with even lower miles than the one you are looking at. Trust me, they are out there. Good luck with the search.

That car is real nice. It still for sale? Where located? The car I was looking at had a T-top, but actually would rather not have that. How old of a post was this? I missed that one.

The car I was looking at is at the imperial palace casino in vegas at the auto collections museum. I decided that I am going to pass on it and not even give them a bid on it. When I was there I thought about giving them a bid of $35,000 but decided that when I do buy an 87, I want to be able to drive and enjoy it. I would feel guilty whenever I drove that one and put more miles on it. That car belongs in a museum and even though it is for sale ($55,000) I think it will be there for a while to admire. Maybe someday when I have the money just to look at a car and have the space, I will check to see if it is still there. If I won $20,000 while i was there it would be mine, but that wasn't the case. Thanks to all that posted for the advice.

That's the reason for the outlandish price :) When looking for a 10th Anniv TA, I saw a few museum cars, even one that I saw for sale before the museum bought it...all were way over priced from the market... The one I had seen previous was for sale for $18k out of Nashville...musuem in Chicago had the exact car, the guys name was on the owners manual in the glove box that had it previously...was asking $27k, not 1 month after the guy had sold it!

As said above, buy one with say 20-30k miles on it, do some nice mods to it for around another $3-5k..like the ones in my sig, and enjoy the hell out of it and have no worries about it loosing value and blow the doors off anything on the streets for the most part!

Yea, I figured since it was a museum car, the price was inflated considerably. Thought about giving an offer of $35,000, but the guy at the museum I talked to about it was kind of a snooty dick that apparently didn't think I had the money anyway. I'm a farmer and I guess I dress like one. Didn't know that when looking to buy a car in vegas you need a $5,000 suit and tie. Talked myself out of it anyway like I said. Just looking for something I can have fun driving and park next to my 84 so I can have one of the first and the last. Would like to have one from each year, but haven't convinced the wife of that yet!!

Thanks for the info Rob

Hey it wasn't the one I bought as it wasn't all that nice, just had the Pace Car decals on it so they thought it was worth a ton more...anyone could buy the decals back then and put them on so there was no history of the dealers selling them that way, although some were and are considered the most collectable...but there is no way to prove it had the decals installed by the dealer. Thought it was funny to find the same car I had already looked into being sold by the next buyer of it so soon for such a different price. Of course that was 10 years ago, they could get double that now :D
