I need one that is good and tight. I have 2 here with over 2 inches of play in either direction.

Best way to adjust them is on the car but you can do it on the bench also. Count the rotations and get the shaft lined up so it exactly centered. Loosen up the nut on top then with an allen key turn the center bolt all the down (clock wise) until it is snug. Back the bolt out 1 turn then hold it there and tighten up the nut. Try that.
 
They say you should but I've done it on and off the ground and it doesn't seem to make much a difference. Works both ways. Just make sure you steering wheel is centered tires straight.
