Ive got a guy near me selling a 2004r he pulled out of his 85 grand national, 80,000 miles.

I read that 86/87 up GN's were the best/strongest to build.

but I also read that 84 up 200-4r are all mechanically the same.

Is this 85 trans a good one? good valve body/govenor? and is it worth his $350 asking price?

Also if it really is a GN, how will I identify it by the tag? It will have only "BQ" on it?

Thanks.

The 84's didn't get the heat treated sun shell. 85 and up did. Major differences are the servo. Intercooled cars got the bigger servo. 84-85 cars got the mid sized servo. N/A applications got the small servo. Calibration is close enough that you could use the 86-87 servo (or billet if wanted) and have a great unit (depending on builder, ;))

I should have BQ on it to be the 84-85 turbo application. Worth the $350 in my opinion. Regular 2004Rs go for around $75 otherwise around here.

I went and got it.

BQ on tag, took pan off, pink paint and BQ on valve body, came with original converter too

Got it down to $300
