interior light problem..help

a few weeks ago I noticed that when I turned on my headlights that my in dash lights got real dim and my radio lights went out along with all my other lights like my shifter lights.I thoght I had the lights all the wway dimmed so I adjusted them with the dimmer but the dashlights stayed all the way dim and the radio and the shift indicator lights stayed off.I figured the servo for the dimmer went out so I ordered a new one and installed it.Same problem.I also borrowed one out of a friends car and nothing changed.All my fuses are good and I tried two other good light switches but no change.Don't know what it could be .any help will be appreciated.

Did you check the 5 ampere instrument lamps fuse?

Check the dash ground. A bad ground will cause dimming when the headlights are turned on.

Check alternator

I had a problem similar to that one time. I found that my alternator was going out.

what is the vecinity of the dash ground ,drivers side or passenger,any land mark will help.Thanks
