I'm screwed! stripped upper bolt

Hi Folks,

So I was looking for an intake leak and I narrowed it down to the upper plenumn. So I went ahead and was tightening them just a pinch. All went well except for the pass rear upper plenumn (under the coil pack bracket) It just kept on going, then I got that chill one gets when they know the absolute worst has happened.

So, what are my options? Heli-coil?? Has anyone ever used these on something like this??

Where can I get a gasket for this part?

Heli-coil it and forget it! Not a big deal.

Helicoils are waaaaaaaayyyyyyy easy.
The thought is a little intimidating if you haven't installed them beforebut, after you put one in you will feel kinda of silly for thinking they are hard to install.

If you can drill out a hole and screw in a bolt, you can install a helicoil.

80 inch lbs. the heli coils work great. just take your time.

Thanks for the replies, Where did you get the torque spec from? I am not doubting you it is just that 80-in lbs is about 7 ft-lbs which seems kinda light.

Hey wlaukaitis,

Ever think of using studs for the upper plenum.

I know there should be some more info on here about this. Just do a search.

Studs worked well for me and I never have to worry about stripping out those threads again. Especially if you're using a power plate.

Sometimes a 3/8" longer bolt works well too, new/good threads.

I just did this last weekend.

bring one plenum bolt to the hardware store buy the same bolt but 2 inches longer and buy a nut. Cut the head off the bolt and stud it in place of the stripped bolt. Works great!
