Ignition module signals

Does anyone know what signal is applied to the coil packs via the ignition module? The frequency is pretty obvious but I'm wondering if it's a sine wave, square wave, what volts p-p, that sort of thing. I'm working on a little something and I've made some assumptions but I would like to know for sure before I go any further and I don't particularly want to take mine apart and I don't have one lying around to check. Any help is appreciated. james

I should have been more specific. I meant without the coil attached. So more like what would be seen on an o-scope over a high impedance non reactive connection to ground.
