How to determine if sock collapsed

I got my 307 (bad) pump out of my TTA. It has some sort of white/clear webbing inside of it. The sock is black. I was wondering how could I tell whether or not this sock is collapsed or not. Seems odd that there is something inside of the sock. Unlike the white sock I got with my XP unit.

After further inspection it seems to be a mesh inside to keep the sock from collapse. It does seem to be restrictive. What a pain......... removing the fuel tank from a TTA.
