Are there significant differences between a hot air shortblock and an intercooled one? (I know the block casting numbers are different)

I was thinking of getting an intercooled shortblock and putting my heads, etc on it, but will that work?

Thanks for answering such a basic question. I tried a search, but didn't find anything.

The HA blocks come in 2 basic varieties: 14 and 20 bolt

Depending which one you have, some of the main differences are:
-Turbo oil return hole in the front of the engine.
-Lifter valley casting finish
-Drain plug on the side of the engine
-Head bolt depth (recessed on the 109)
-Deck height
-Material differences
-Other minor differences 9I am sure the experts will chime in :cool: )

The IC'd shortblock will work fine. Just do the following;
-Plug oil return line
-Verify valve geometry (pushrod length)
-Get the 20 bolt front cover (If you have a 14 bolt block)

FWIW, the HA blocks hold up fine. (See link in sig :biggrin: )
