high stall

i bought my 84 tr in december and have decided to pull the motor and trans and rebuild both. my question is that when i pulled the transmission of the engine the converter says HIgh Stall GN and its a 9". the problem is that it never stalled. any reason it wouldnt?

Could be a lot of different things. If your wastegate system was working properly but the car could not build rpm there could be an issue with the converter. No way of knowing without someone cutting it open to see what may be wrong with it.
